The Shield Knot is deemed to be an ancient Celtic symbol of protection and was placed either on battle fields or near ill people as a means of warding off evil spirits or other dangers. The tip has a carved crocodile that is made from genuine brass. It has been polished inside and out. A food safe sealant coats the interior of the horn.
