The finish on the sides (cheek) helps to provide additional protection from the elements while in use. On one side you have a sharp Axe blade (bit), and the Butt (back side) can act as a hammer for driving in stakes or even nails if needed. A wedge is in place in the center of the eye gives this axe a much longer life than most and when it begins to wear you can hammer the wedge back in or replace it for a tighter fit of the head. The gorgeous dark polished wood handle is formed ergonomically for maximum swing and comfort.
